new space

Our new room is on the 3d floor of a big old brick building. We have three windows and several more pieces of furniture than would ideally be in a room of this size. It is comfortable though, and, apparently, it is the place to be if you are a wasp. Where my roommate and I have the good sense to come in through the door, they attempt the windows. There are swinging internal screens that allow us to access the windows, which swing outward. If, like I happen to have it right now, you leave one window pane shut and open the other, a wasp trap is created. The creepy little things try to climb up the window pane and fall over. They try the interior screen, and fall over. They get really angry and tap their stingers against the window pane. They seem incapable of just flying out, they always try to climb out on something. This puzzles me. I could draw some rather corny parallel to my life with this, but my current situation is not analogous to that of the wasp. While I am most definitely in something of a middle space myself, caught between the glass of the future and the screen of the present (if you will permit me such a ridiculous statement) I am not angry. Frustrated, perhaps, but also really happy.

Another wasp just flew in the window. I think I am going to go out through the door and enjoy the sunshine (before I am stuck in classrooms and the library for the next six months). Welcome back to school everybody, it's gonna be a good time :o)
